BRYNTIRION 2-2 AFAN LIDO

Damon Thomas made
his first appearance for some time and was in the thick of the
action from the start.
Fortunately for Damon we had a lenient referee otherwise he could
easily have been in the book in the first
ten minutes. To be fair he heeded the warning and played his
part in a sound team performance.
We should have taken the lead after 11 minutes, Damon played Corey
Thomas in, the keeper closed him down
and from just outside the area Corey tamely 'passed' the ball to the
keeper. Minutes later Carl Payne was played in but with Corey
waiting on a square ball he went for goal but his effort was saved
at the expense of a corner. The corner was cleared and the ball
swept up field for Bryntirion to take the lead. David Anderson
was well off his line and their striker shot over him from 30 yards.
Three minutes later
we were level when Corey Thomas picked up a loose ball and fed Shaun
Best who fired home from just outside the area. On 33 minutes we
again went behind, we actually had the ball wide in the Bryntirion
half but they harried us to the extent that we kept passing the ball
backwards and eventually gave away a free kick on the edge of our
box. From the free kick they went in front. Five minutes
later we almost equalised when Corey Thomas squared the ball for
Shaun Best but his effort from the edge of the area went just over
the bar.
5 minutes into the
second half we were again level when a Corey Thomas cross was headed
in by Shaun Best.
In general we bossed the second half without being able to find the
finishing touch. On 69 minutes Shaun Best
fed Remi Whitlock who from thirty yards hit a screamer which went
inches wide.
In the last five
minutes we were camped in the Bryntirion penalty area with a
succession of corners. One resulted in an almighty scramble with
several players unable to get in a telling shot. The final
corner was half cleared and Corey Thomas from no more than six yards
hit one to the keepers left and he made a terrific diving save and
the ball was scrambled clear. Within seconds the final whistle
sounded.
