| The
reserves boosted by the return from injury of Dan Williams,
suspension of Carl Evans and the unavailability for the first
team game at Ely of Liam McCreesh took Goytre's 100% home record
in a fast and furious match at Glenhafod Park.
After 8 minutes
Karl Roberts sped down the right wing and played the ball in to
Shaun Best whose cross eluded Neil Hendra with an open goal at
his mercy. Dan Williams then hoisted a free kick into the
area which Justin Williams headed goalwards but straight into
the keeper's hands. Carl Edwards then played a great ball
inside the back of the defender for Ali Walkley to run on to but
the keeper just won the race for possession. After 17
minutes a dangerous break by Goytre was snuffed out by a timely
Justin Williams tackle inside the box. Approaching the
half hour Carl Evans crossed to Neil Hendra but from a good
position he headed wide.
Justin Williams
tried his luck from 25 yards when he was allowed time and space
to move forward with the ball, unfortunately his shot went the
wrong side of the posts.
Twice in a
minute Shaun Best had chances but failed to hit the target with
either then on 36 minutes despite all our pressure we went
behind, it all stemmed from Matt Lavis losing the ball forty
yards out with no cover behind him and their striker went
through to slot the ball past Josh Cokely.
Corey Thomas replaced Dan Williams at half time and his
first contribution was to beat a couple of players on the right,
he laid the
ball inside for Matt Lavis to hit first time but he drilled his
shot wide. On the hour Corey found space on the left
of the area but their keeper made a diving save to his right to
protect their lead. Three minutes later we were level, Karl
Roberts on another of his runs forward was fouled thirty yards
out, Liam McCreesh shot, the keeper saved but couldn't hold
it, Liam following up shot again, again the keeper saved and
Neil Hendra toe poked the ball in from a couple of yards.
After 70
minutes Goytre should have regained the lead but the striker
blazed over the crossbar from a couple of yards after arriving
late at the far post to meet a left wing cross. Carl Evans
almost made it 2-1 to Goytre when a clearance sliced
of his boot and just went wide of the far post. With 7
minutes to go a Goytre defender failed to cut out a through ball
and Corey Thomas raced towards goal but was tackled and in added
on time Neil Hendra went through but the keeper turned his shot
away for a corner which was cleared.
