Lido
lose league cup replay
|
|
Our first game since the
departure of the 3 Amigo's saw Lido relinquish their hold on the league
cup at Cold Blow Lane, it was always going to be a tough assignment
missing 13 players (including the 3 players who left)
We found ourselves down
2-0 in the 1st 14 minutes and never got back on terms. we did get a goal
on the day from Steve Davies but Caerleon ran out 3-1 winners.
To make matters worse the
home team went down to 9 men with the score at 3-1, but we couldn't
capitalise on the superior numbers.

Afan
Lido U19 0-2 Swansea U19
|
|
The game was evenly matched for most the first half, Swansea, a well
organised unit controlled much of the early possession but Lido battled
well and with neither goalkeeper really tested, there was little to
choose between the two teams at the half time whistle.
Swansea took the lead 12 mins into the second half. The Swans big
centre forward received the ball with his back to goal just in the box,
turned and smashed an unstoppable shot into the net
Changes were made by both sides but the game flowed and it remained
competitive.
Cory Thomas had a great chance to level the score but with
a one on one with the goalkeeper took his shot early and blazed over the
bar. The game became a more open affair and both keepers pulled off fine
one handed diving saves.
With 10 mins remaining Swans secured the win
after a misplaced pass in the Lido's last 3rd was pounced upon and
another shot was rifled in .
Overall the game was played in the spirit
football matches should be played ! with the Lido playing their part in
an enjoyable game.

The
3 Amigo's resign as coaches
|
|
Tonight the three Amigo's
otherwise known as Paul Evans, Phil Holmes and Brian Thomas have resigned
and left the club with immediate effect. They met with the players at
training tonight to break it to the squad, and had earlier informed the
club of their decisions. The lads have stated that they have left for
personal reasons.
They will all be sorely
missed by every section of the club. They have all been great servants to
the club for many years from youths to seniors and more recently as
coaches.
And I wish them all the
best for their future ventures as does the club for all they have done
over the years.
Good luck lads.
Former manager Mark
Robinson takes over first team affairs until a permanent outcome is
decided.

Caerleon
match abandoned after fisticuffs

Caerleon took the lead just
after the hour with a penalty when John Felton
was adjudged to have fouled Jason Price on the edge of the area.
From

over with everyone involved.
The referee sent off Karl Lewis

he said he couldn't guarantee the safety of the remaining players.
Since
returning home we've heard the match will be replayed next Saturday

Under 18's hit
Ystrad for ten in SWFA Cup
|
|
South Wales
F.A. Youth League Cup under 18,s
Afan Lido 10 ..Ystrad Mynach B.C..0
From the out set it looked like it was going to be a
very one sided
affair and in the first minute Lido scored through Sam N who scored from
close range. On 10 mins Remi hit the bar directly from a corner and
after constant pressure Lido scored 2 in as many minutes both from Luke
P.
On the half hour mark Steve made to 4 nil after smashing in a
shot
from in side the box . The second half began with the Lido continuing
the onslaught but some wayward finishing meant the score stayed the
same, on 51 minutes Ystrad had their first shot on goal which was well
saved by Rory MC ,a minute later Matt B turn centre forward headed Lido
into a 5 nil lead .
On 55 mins Chris p came on for Sean J and the goals
continued to go in . Luke P completed his Hat-trick on 56 mins. Two
mins
later Chris p scored after rounding the keeper and finishing with a neat
low shot .
In the 63rd min Chris scored
Lido's 8th with a fine shot from
the edge of the box . The only negative moment in the game when Ceri C
was helped from the field, which looked like a painful foot injury. Ceri
was replaced by Cory T, who had been on the field for only 1 min
before
scoring Lido 9th.
On 71 mins Chris P completed his 2nd half hat-trick.
Despite the 10-0 victory I think
all the Lido players had hoped for a more competitive game.

Jonah
leaves to turns pro with the Reds
|
|
Lido's young top scorer,
striker Mark Jones has tonight signed up for professional welsh premier club
Llanelli. He will be teaming up with another of Afan Lido's former players
Craig Jones who signed for the Reds at the start of the season.
Mark (Jonah) Jones was Afan
Lido's top scorer with six of the fourteen league goals this season.
It was always on the cards
that young Jonah would be moving on to play in the professional arena, just
a matter of when.
He came through the ranks
of the Afan Lido youth system before joining Cardiff City, and was released
at the end of last season, and didn't hesitate to join up with his former
club while keeping up his hopes of turning pro again.
Jonah had trials during the
summer with several league clubs in England including Millwall, in his
search for full time soccer, but now his chance has come with Llanelli.
The club wishes it's former
youth star all the best with his new club, and are desperately trying to
secure his transfer clearance in time for him to join the Reds in their trip
up north Friday night for their welsh premier clash with newly promoted
Llangefni.
Mark has been told
"The door is always open for a return to the club"
In other news on the
playing staff at the Lido, we wish under 19 players Remi Whitlock and Carl
Payne all the best of luck with their trials at Swansea City.

Liverpool
set to play at the Marston

|
So you thought Liverpool were
coming to the Lido, well I managed to get your attention didn't I.
It fact it isn't Liverpool
that's coming to the Lido but Baggy Trousers, and its on September 8th.
The club are trying to
raise funds for the club and for the players pool, and if Saturday night is
a success it will be repeated in the future.
I would come over myself
but what with the plane fair and hotel bill, it would be a dear night out
for me, but for you it will only set you back £3.5 and what better cause
than to support your favorite soccer club. The band start playing at 8:30
you can pay at the door.
So turn out on Saturday
night and enjoy the music and raise a few bob for the club as well, go on
you know it makes sense.
