More details to follow.

Lido Ladies update

With no game last weekend for the Ladies team, their match with UWIC at the Marston being called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

There were just two league games played last Sunday involving the top two teams Newport and Swansea, both still having 100% records. Swansea travelled to Pontypridd and had no trouble at all running out easy 11-1 winners, while Newport were run a lot closer beating Bridgend 5-4.

This Sunday they travel to Newport (me home town) to take on unbeaten Newport City Strikers. They will be looking for revenge for the home defeat Newport inflicted on them on 17th October, with goals from Kirsty Pratt and Aimee Bowditch not being enough on the day as Newport eventually won 3-2.

The other games being played this Sunday see's Haverfordwest host Ferndale and Pontardawe hosting UWIC.

But just two days after the Newport game, the Ladies are being let loose on the unsuspecting public when they travel to a Port Talbot nightclub to celebrate Halloween and partake in a karaoke night. I have been reliably informed that they haven't a note in their heads between the lot of them.

News from around the teams

With no game this weekend for the first team, they will be instead hitting the golf course, and then some liquid refreshments afterwards to replenish the lost body fluids. I have it on good authority that most are rubbish at golf, but one player has a 17 h'cap he also happens to be the teams top scorer this season.

The Reserves home game with Ammanford that was scheduled for November 18 has been brought forward to the 17.

In the youth welsh league division, Morriston Town have withdrawn from the league. Our lads were due to play them on October 31, they now have a home game on October 29 at home to Bryntirion Ath.

Cup opponents lose again in the league

Our cup opponents Bodedern were on the wrong end of a 4-1 home defeat on Saturday to last season's Cymru Alliance runners up Buckley Town. Their only goal of the game came at 4-0 down in the shape of a penalty in the last minute,

They go into the cup tie on the back of four straight defeats in the league and are 14th in the table. Stark contrast to the Lido as we are unbeaten in 11 games, and looking to make it 12 come 4:30 on Saturday.

Lido Ladies, U19 & U8 results

The Lido Ladies were due to host UWIC today at the Marston Stadium, but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Unconfirmed report is that the game could be re-scheduled for Wednesday night, will put it up on the website if date is confirmed.

The under 19's were in action today when they travelled to Neath for a welsh league game. The lads lost their 100% winning record but still remain unbeaten and in 2nd place following their 0-0 draw.

The under 8's were bang in top form Saturday when they travelled to take on Trefelin. It turned out to be a very one sided game with our young lads storming home to a 14-0 win. Reports have it they are getting better with every week, so the other teams had better watch out.

87 Minutes no score, Phil Holmes name goes into the ref's book. Time running out for a Lido winner.

Full time score 0-0

Some consolation from tonight's 0-0 draw is it was our 3rd clean sheet on the trot in the league, and our 7th game unbeaten.

The point from tonight's game takes us into 2nd spot in the league ahead of Aberaman and Taffs Well on goal difference, and 3 points behind Neath in top spot. Well done to the squad for climbing all the way up the league after 2 defeats in the first 2 games of the season. Games at the Marston this week

There are 3 games on at the Marston this week, starting tonight when the under 19's face west Wales club Haverfordwest, Harry West currently lie bottom with 3 defeats from 3 games, a far cry from last years side that won the MacWhirter cup last season. Kick off @ 7:pm

Next up is the first team on Friday night in an important game when Bryntirion are the visitors. Last season we ran out 3-1 winners in the same tie, with Ian Jones with a brace and a Chris piper goal gave us victory, a repeat of that score line Friday would do nicely, especially as it will be our last league game until the 10th November. Kick off @ 7:30 pm

On Sunday the ladies are in action on home soil when UWIC are the visitors. While the ladies were exiting the cup at the hands of Bridgend, UWIC were easing past Haverfordwest in the Welsh cup. Kick off @2:pm

Other games this week involve the Reserves who are away to Pontardawe. Ponty are still winless but have played just two games and lost one and drawn one.

Also on Sunday the under 19's are in action again when they make the short journey to face Neath.

Their task was made very hard when Kirsty Pratt was shown the red card in the 3rd minute of the game. READ MATCH REPORT

Swansea's Ladies move further ahead

Swansea City Ladies moved further ahead in the league with another win under their belts, they beat Haverfordwest Ladies by 6-0 on Sunday, They now have a 6 played 6 won record and move 9 points clear of nearest challengers Newport Strikers.

Things looked ominous for Haverfordwest even before the kick off, as they travelled to Swansea with the bare 11 players, and 2 of them were newcomers who had never even played a competitive game before, and had only just started training with the Bluebirds.

Haverfordwest must have been aware of Swansea's dominance in their previous 5 games, but thought some of the ref's decisions were a bit iffy.

Swansea were awarded a penalty when the Hwest Ladies were expecting a free kick their way, and allowed the Swansea penalty taker to take the spot kick even before the Hwest keeper had made it back to her goal line. There were other decisions made by the ref that had the Hwest Ladies scratching their heads making them feel their task was even bigger than it would have been, but in the end Swansea ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.

Lido drop to 7th as Ton win away 1-0

We dropped back to 7th in the league following yesterday's result which saw Ton Pentre come away from Pontardawe with a 1-0 win.

The win moves Ton Pentre back up to 2nd in the table, as they have taken 16 points from the last 18, Their only defeat came in their opening fixture when the lost to newcomers ENTO Aberaman 2-0 at Ynys Park. Ton trail leaders Neath by 3 points but have a game in hand.

Pontypridd are also poised nicely in 8th they have lost just once in 6 games winning the other 5, and could take top spot if they can win their games in hand, they beat Taffs well on Friday night, and Taffs as we know inflicted Neath's only defeat of the season 2 weeks ago. So it's going to be a tough league to win this season, but no other team can boast 8 wins out of 8 as the Lido can:)

On the down side, news is not good for John Felton and Liam McCreesh ahead of Saturday's game at home to Dinas Powys, both could miss the game through the injuries they received in the 1-0 win at Goytre.

Preview on Bodedern our cup opponents

Lido have drawn at home to Bodedern of the Cymru Alliance in the 3rd round of the welsh cup.

Here is some info on the club that stands between Afan Lido and the last 16 of the welsh cup.

They are from Anglesey and are one of four clubs from the Island playing in the Cymru Alliance.

Boded (as they are known by their supporters) are only in their 2nd season in the Cymru Alliance, last season they finished a credible 9th in their first season.

Prior to the Cymru Alliance they spent 3 seasons in the Welsh Alliance league after gaining promotion from the Gwynedd league. In their first season in the Welsh Alliance they came 2nd and also won the Barrett cup.

In 2003-04 they retained their Barrett cup trophy and finished 4th in the league. But the 2004-05 was the big turning point for the club, they started the season by winning the welsh alliance charity cup, and they finished the season as welsh Alliance champions and were promoted to the Cymru Alliance league.

Though no silverware for Boded last season but a season of consolidation with a 9th place finish.

This season they currently lie in 12th spot having played fewer games than any other team, they have won 2 and lost 3, but are clearly a team going places, hopefully not at our expense.

Their manager is Kevin Hughes who is in his 6th season in charge of the side, the season the team won promotion from the Welsh Alliance he was voted manager of the year.

Their website can be found at http://members.aol.com/bodedernfc/index.html  Its an up to date and well documented website and well worth a look, and was the source of the info for the preview.

Lido home in 3rd round of welsh cup

Lido have drawn at home to Bodedern of the Cymru Alliance in the 3rd round of the welsh cup.

Bodedern are in the same boat as ourselves being in the top feeder league to the welsh premier.

It's hard to judge the strength's of both divisions, but in recent years Cymru Alliance clubs promoted to the WPL have faired fairly well, with Welshpool, Porthmadog and Airbus UK all establishing themselves well.

But home advantage alone should see as favourites to progress to the last 16 of the cup.
