Goytre take
the points home
|
|
Tonight's local derby saw
Afan Lido surrender their unbeaten record to neighbours Goytre, in a close
game. The first
half saw good football from both sides without a breakthrough for either
team.
The deadlock was broken
in the 75 minute with Goytre scoring the games only goal.
A come back by Lido was
made even harder when Carl Edwards was sent off for receiving two yellow
cards late on in the game.
Not quite the start new
manager Craig Duggan was hoping for against his old club, but he hasn't
had time yet to make his mark on his new team.
Goytre's win see's them
go top of the table, 2 points clear of Ton Pentre.
Tonight's attendance was
Lido's highest of the season so far with 430 turning out to watch the two
teams battle it out.

Preview
of the Goytre league game
|
|
Friday night's home game
against Goytre promises to be an interesting test for both sides.
It will be Craig Duggan's
first game in charge of the Lido first team against the club he spent 6
years managing.
We go into the derby as
the only unbeaten team left in the first division, while Goytre have lost
3 of their last 4 games in the league since Craig's departure. Our lads
will want to impress the new Gaffer, while Goytre will surely want to show
their ex there's life after him at Glenhafod park.
It should bring in our
biggest home attendance of the season, which this season has seen our
gates hugely improved on last season. Our average home gate this season is
just over 242, better than most welsh premier clubs, and even better than
our neighbours at the Remax whose average is just 224, in fact our average
of 242 is better than 8 welsh premier clubs.
We will be looking to add
only our 4th league win in 10 games which has seen us draw 6 of our 9
games so far, scoring has been our biggest problem this season and the
main reason why we have dropped 12 points from our 9 games, take away the
11 we scored against rock bottom Garw we have only managed 9 goals in 8
games, but we can boast the meanest defence in the league having only
conceded 6 goals in 9 games, and can boast 4 clean sheets.
But a win on Friday night
is essential to see us move up the table if we are to have any chance of a
top finish and promotion, this seasons table looks like being one of the
most open in years with just 2 points separating the first 6 teams and
even the next 3 teams (Caerleon, Ento, and ourselves) could be right up
their with the leading 6 if we win our games in hand of the teams above.
So all to play for on Friday night kick off is at 7:30, turn up and give
your vocal support to the red side of town.

Craig
Duggan is the new Afan Lido manager
|
|
Tonight former Afan Lido
player Craig Duggan made a return to the club, Craig has been named as the
new manager of the first team.
Craig who left Goytre Utd
earlier this season after six successful seasons as manager with Goytre,
leading them to the welsh league title and runners up spot in the last two
seasons.
44 year old Craig will
manage the first team, with Mark Robinson going back to his role as
General Manager, Mark will also coach the first team.
The club looks forward to
Craig's return to the club and under his guidance they hope he will lead
us back to the welsh premier league.
In his playing days Craig
made 112 welsh premier appearances for the club between 1992-93 to the
1995-96 season, and scored 11 goals.
Craig's first game in
charge of Afan Lido see's him paired against his former club Goytre Utd
who make the short trip across town this Friday night in a local derby at
the Marston.

Message
for Jeff Bailey
|
|
This is a message for Jeff
Bailey who contacted me via the website mail form a few days ago regarding
under 7's coverage on the website.
Jeff I have sent emails
twice to the address you left but both times the email returned
undelivered, stating a Spam like setting is stopping them getting through.
Do you have another email address other than the Hotmail you gave me
(works email etc) if so can you send it to me via the form again please,
cheers, (I don't want to publish my email address on here as I will be
hammered with Spam emails as was the case in the past when my address was
public)
Just in case Jeff does
not spot this message on the website, could someone who knows Jeff, or can
contact him, pass on this message to him on my behalf.
Thanks

Lido
win in local derby over Maesteg
|
|
We won our 3rd game of the
season in the league tonight over Maesteg Park.
But we had to do it the
hard way, Maesteg scored first, but a goal from former Maesteg player
Kieron Howells on 41 minutes saw us go in at half time all square.
Our winner came courtesy
of Craig Martin to give a much needed win after all those draws.
More to follow 2moz.

U19's
make hard work beating Harry West
|
|
Our under 19's made hard
work of putting away the bottom team in the league. but eventually came
out 3-2 winners and sent Haverfordwest back home empty handed and still
bottom of the league.
We went 3-0 up with goals
from Shaun Morgan, Nathan Hodgson and Carl Payne, but Hwest came with 2
goals of their own, but we did enough to take all 3 points.
The win moves us up to
3rd in the table behind Llanelli and Carmarthen.

A
tough tie for the U19's in FAW cup
|
|
We have been dealt with
probably the toughest draw in the 3rd round of the FAW youth cup.
We have been drawn away
to Cardiff College Celts, who gave us a thumping in last seasons
competition winning 7-0.
Celts went onto last
seasons final of this tournament beating Gresford in the semi-finals 4-2
in Welshpool, before taking on Merthyr Tydfil in the final at the Remax,
which Merthyr ran out eventual winners 2-1.
The full draw is for the
3rd round is:

Another
Lido web record for October
|
|
The month of October turned
out the best yet with 31,612 visits to the site. We also had the highest
daily figure of 1,661, the average for the month was 1,020.
Quite a growth since 2006
when we averaged 4,117 visitors a month. an increase of 438%. The biggest
feature by far is still our Welsh soccer news.
For the month of October
we received visits from 91 countries, including some unlikely visitors
from United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Brazil & Japan, never knew we had
Lido fans in those places.
At some stage today we
will break the quarter of a million visits, standing as I write at
249,471, another milestone passed.
