Big
game for under 19's this Sunday |
|
Our
under 19 team face their biggest
test this season when they travel
to table toppers Merthyr in must
win game for the team if they have
any hope of claiming the title
this season (weather permitting)
Defeat
for the lads would see Merthyr
open up a 10 point gap between the
club. we are the only two unbeaten
sides left in the division west.
Merthyr
only re-started their youth team
back in 2004/05 season and played
in the south Wales youth league at
under 18, and in their first
season back they won the southern
section going unbeaten all season.
The
next season their under 18 winning
side moved up to the welsh league
where they reached the quarter
final of the cup and finished 3rd
in the central section.
This
season they are unbeaten after 8
games winning 7 and one draw, they
are the only team to inflict a
defeat on 2nd placed West End
beating them 2-1 recently.
We
will be looking for top scorer
Shaun Best to have his scoring
boots on this Sunday, he is our
top scorer in the league with 4
goals.
There
is also a big difference in the
scoring rate of both teams, while
we have managed only 11 goals from
our 7 games, Merthyr has knocked
in 34 from their 8 games, the two
players our defence have to watch
are top scorer Craig Moses who has
notched 11 goals from 8 games
& Neil Leeson who has scored 8
goals from 10 games, they have the
best scoring record in the
division while we have the best
defensive conceding just 5, it
looks odds on against a 0-0, but a
1-0 to Lido will do very nicely.
So
good luck to the team on Sunday.

Is
it a Pirate or is it a Gaffer? |
|
Do
you recognise this man?? Some say
it's Blackbeard the Pirate (minus
the beard:) Some say he looks vaguely
like Gaffer Evo?

But
whoever it is looks like he went 12 round with Lenox Lewis
and lost badly. But in fact this poor sole ended up in
A&E needing a local anaesthetic to remove branches
& leaves from his eye as he desperately
tried to get a decorative tree into his house, they even
found a neighbours cat in there who had been missing for a
few days.
Dangerous things
them aggressive trees, you can't turn your back on them for a minute.

Ladies lose heavily to UWIC |
|
Our
Ladies team suffered a heavy
defeat to 3rd placed UWIC
yesterday.
Things
didn't go well even before they
left for Cardiff. The team left
with only 10 players due to
illness to players, and minus
coach Phil Robbo who had to stay
behind to run the bar.
Not
the kind of pre-match troubles the
team needed against high flying
UWIC, who having lost their league
opener against Swansea have
rattled off 3 victories conceding
just 1 goal and scoring 9.

Merthyr
extend lead in youth division |
|
Merthyr
Tydfil extended their lead at the
top of the Youth
Division West, when they travelled to the Recreation Ground to play
Pontardawe.
Merthyr
ran out easy 5-1 winners to move 6
points clear of 2nd placed West
End and 7 points clear of our
lads.
Merthyr's
game turned out to be the only
game played as the others fell
foul of the weather.
Weather
permitting our lads are out Tuesday
when local rivals Goytre United
travel to the Marston in a 7:pm

Tough
task for the Ladies this Sunday |
|
THE
LADIES HAVE A CHANGED GAME AND NOW
FACE UWIC AWAY
The
Lido Ladies are due to face runaway
league leaders Swansea City this
Sunday, having already lost to the
Swans 5-1 at home in
October.
Swansea
lead the table by 11 points from
Newport, and are 21 points ahead
of our Ladies. Their record is
played 8 won 8.
Such
is Swansea's strength that their
Reserve team in division 1 have
only lost 1 game with 3 wins from
their 4 games.
Last
time out we failed to field a team
with only 7 players turning up to
face Ferndale.
The
other games on Sunday are:
Ferndale v Haverfordwest. Bridgend

at home to Maesteg in cup |
|
We
have been drawn against Maesteg in
the last 16 of the Shamrock travel
cup.
The
game takes place on December 9th
with a 1:30 pm kick off.
Our
match was the only pairing of
division 1 clubs as the other 4
teams all avoided each other
giving them a better chance of
qualifying for the quarter finals.
Goytre
Utd will host Cambrian &
Clydach, while Neath are also at
home and seem to have an easy task
when they take on division 2
strugglers Morriston Town. The
other division 1 side Bridgend are
away to Ammanford.
The
full draw is.

Another
club record broken at Barry |
|
While
the club celebrated it's biggest
ever victory on Saturday against
Barry Town 7-0, beating our
previous best away victory which
was a 6-0 win over Abergavenny in
the inaugural season of the welsh
premier league, and also bettered
our biggest home win which was a
7-1 victory over Porthcawl town in
the welsh league.
Ian
Jones also broke the scoring
record held by a Lido player for a
single game, his five at Jenner
Park takes over from club all time
top scorer Mitch Patton who
notched up four against Risca
United in the welsh league on
Saturday 23rd of November 1996.
Well
done to Ian who has now scored 10
league goals from 9 games, plus 9
goals in 5 cup games, giving a grand
total of 19 goals from 14 games.

Youth's
draw with Aberaman |
|
Our
under 19's travelled up the
valleys to take on bottom of the
league ENTO Aberaman, and they
failed to take all 3 points to
move themselves into 2nd spot,
they finished all square at 2-2.
It was Aberaman's first point of
the season.
The
top game in the U19's was the
clash of the top two, as West End
travelled just a bit further up
the road than our side to take on
Merthyr, and in a close encounter,
the home side came out on top
beating West End 3-2.
Merthyr's
win see's them create a 3 point
lead at the top and 4 ahead of our
side.

over at half time at Jenner Park |
|
The
game at Jenner Park today against
Barry Town is already over as a
contest after the first half.
Lido
lead 4-0 at the break with another
hat-trick for Ian Jones and a 4th
from Shaun O'Leary.
Final
score @ Jenner Park was 7-0 to
Lido, Further goals by Ian Jones
(2) (his 5th of the game) &
Chris Latham.
Today's
7-0 destruction of Barry Town is
new record for the club.
The
goal avalanche has helped our goal
difference against the teams above
us from 6th best to 3rd - not
allowing for today's results for
other teams. It was also our 4th
league game on the bounce with conceding
a goal

U19
Neighbours lose while ours was off |
|
Our under
19's were denied the chance of going top of the Youth
division west, as the game was called off due to a
waterlogged pitch. But
there was one game played last night, and it saw
Carmarthen gain their first win in 6 attempts when they
beat Port Talbot 4-2. Carmarthen's win lifted them off the
bottom of the table and up 1 place. Strangely
enough the welsh premier clubs youth teams are all doing
very poorly, with just a total of 5 wins out of 25 games
for Llanelli, Port Talbot, Haverfordwest & Carmarthen,
and no team being higher than 8th out of 13 teams. View

Weekend
results for Lido teams |
|
The Lido
Reserves travelled for their longest away game of the
season and it proved to be a fruitful trip.
They came
away with a 2-1 win and 3 points to keep them in 2nd place
in the table and still the only unbeaten team in the
division.
Carl
Edwards in his first game back from injury scored one of
the Lido goals and Shaun Best got on the score again to
take his tally to 6 in the league.
The 3rds
lost to Margam of the premier division in a Port Talbot
cup match, they lost 3-1 with John Millard scoring the
3rds goal in his first game of the season.
The
under 10 Rangers played local rivals Port Talbot away on
Saturday 11th November. They
won by 3 goals to nil, scorers were Matthew Morgan, Jordan
Lloyd & Harri Kain-Thomas.
Team

Lido
bury Ferry with a 5-0 thumping |
|
The Lido
turned on the style in the Shamrock cup game at Old Road
today against Briton Ferry.
The
writing was on the wall as early as the 2nd minute when
Ian Jones gave the Lido an early lead. But we failed to
take the chances in the first half to kill the opposition
off, and the first half ended in a scrappy affair.
The 2nd
half started as the first did with a Ian Jones goal in the
46 minute and from there the team never looked back.
On 68
minutes Ian Jones scored his hat-trick to finish off any
Ferry resistance, on 83 minutes Dan Williams made it 4-0,
and to round off a good 2nd half display Phil Holmes (a
stranger to the score sheet) made it 5-0 with 2 minutes
left of normal time.
In other
cup games today, Goytre Utd needed extra time to see off
division 2 side West End. Maesteg Celtic also needed extra
time to see of a spirited performance by 3rd division Abertillery
Excelsior's 4-3.
Grange
Quins, Pontardawe, Pontypridd, UWIC & Caerleon were
all dumped out of the cup by lower league opposition. With
the biggest shock being Pontardawe losing at home to
Llanwern 3-0.

U19
draw with Port Talbot 0-0 |
|
The U19's
were in action last night when they travelled to the Remax
to take on Port Talbot. The game failed to produce a goal
as both sides had to settle for a point apiece.
In the
other game being played in the Youth division west, Goytre
Utd lost their unbeaten record when they took on another
unbeaten side West End, and it was West End who keep their
unbeaten record in tact, as they came out 4-2 winners at
Glenhafod Park.
There are
just three unbeaten teams left in the division, the
leaders Merthyr, ourselves and West End.

Ladies
team lose to Pontardawe today |
|
Our Ladies
team suffered a 4-1 home defeat to the strong Pontardawe
Ladies side who only lost to league runaway leaders
Swansea 2-1.
The one
upside from today's game was there were 4 subs available,
next week the Ladies take on Ferndale, and this could give
us our 2nd win of the season, Ferndale like ourselves have
won one game both wins were against Haverfordwest and both
wins by the odd goal, so on paper it should be a close
game.

The youths
were knocked off top spot in the Youth division west
following Merthyr Tydfil's 4-2 home win over Briton Ferry

Merthyr
are out again on Sunday when they travel to ENTO Aberaman,
while we wait for our next game which is on Tuesday next
with a short trip to face Port Talbot at the Victoria

like to call it these days :)

total if they win their games in hand, though obviously
one of them won't after this game.
