5 players
have left the Lido since the end of last season, but wait a mo two have come
back 2day.
First off
Steve Parry returned claiming he was so home sick for the Lido he just couldn't
stay away any longer, and made his way home, Steve is in the squad for
2morra's trip to face Aberystwyth.
Then the
2nd good piece of news came when Gaffer Phil got a text from former captain
Shaunie O'Leary, telling he will be stationed in his new job as a fireman in
Aberavon and will be available for the season.
So the squad
is getting back to shape just in time for the serious stuff to begin.
2moz the
squad leave for a friendly against Aber the gaffers will be taking a squad
of 17 to the game. The players are.
Wyn
Thomas - Craig Martin - Luke Harrington - Darren Bodenham - Matt Lavis - Keiron
Howells - Andrew Wright - Chris Latham - Steve Davies - Carl Edwards - Corey
Thomas - Carl Payne - Justin Williams - Damon Thomas - Shaun Best - Steve
Parry - Mark Jones.
Hopefully
Peter will be going on the trip so I can put up a match report.
Just a
reminder to all the Lido faithful, I will be away from August 4-18 on my
hols in Lanzarote so no website coverage of our first 3 games until I come
back. Then I'll be away the weekend of August 25th (my 50th birthday) but
after that full coverage of the season will be uninterrupted.

An
old favorite returns to the Lido
|
|
26 year
old Andrew Pearson has come back to Afan Lido, having spent the last 3
seasons at neighbours Port Talbot.
Andrew
left Lido for Port Talbot at the start of the 2004/05 season, and he made 41
appearances for Port scoring 5 goals.
He made
156 appearances for Afan Lido from the 1998-99 season until the end of the 2003-04
season scoring 31 goals.
As
a youngster he played for Neath and also had trials for Manchester United, Bristol
Rovers, Cardiff City, Oxford United and Swansea City and spent two years at
West Ham between the ages of 13 to 15.
Andrew is
the 5th new signing for the dynamic duo this pre-season, and I am reliably
informed, there are a few more irons in the fire.
We
welcome Andrew back to the MARSTON STADIUM.

Under
10's Win Corus Steel FC Tournament
|
|
Yesterday
the Rangers under 10’s won their 2nd tournament of the summer
when they won the 3rd Annual Corus Steel FC Tournament.
In
their group matches they played Porthcawl BGC (won 4 – 0), Corus Steel
Blues (won 4 – 1), Port Talbot (drew 0 – 0), Goytre (lost 1 – 0) and
Bryn (won 3 – 0).
In
the semi final they played Cynffig BGC and even though they went 1 – 0
down early on they fought back to win 2 – 1.
In
the final they played Port Talbot. With
no goals being scored by either team in normal or extra time the game
eventually went to penalties. With
Port Talbot missing 2 of the first 4 and Lido scoring all of theirs they won
the penalty shoot out 4 – 2.
Well
done to the team who were victorious, they are Aaron Davies (GK), Charlie
Purchase, Tomos Wheadon, Aaron Goff, Jared Price, Ethan Robinson, Harri
Kain-Thomas, Jordan Lloyd, Matthew Morgan & Jake Howe.
Well
done also to the Colts who were in the same tournament. Although they
didn’t make it through to the knockout stages they came away with 3 draws
against CYP, Baglan & Margam losing only twice to Corus Steel Whites and
Cynffig, both eventual semi finalists.
Well
done to the team, Nathan Burbidge, Nicholas Hughes, William Lewis, Darcy
Griffiths, Regan Brown, Jordan Noakes, Pascal Jones & a guest appearance
from Jake Howe of the Rangers.
Altogether
a great end to their season. Well
done to all the boys this year from Coaches Kirk, Neil, Karl, Ian and Geoff.
Just
a reminder
that the presentation is on Sunday 22nd July at 12 noon. We
look forward to seeing all the boys and their parents there.

Ianto signs
for welsh premier league club
|
|
I can inform everybody
that Ianto (Ian Jones) has put pen to paper and signed for Haverfordwest
County.
Ianto will no doubt do
well for the welsh premier side as he is a proven goal scorer as last season
showed with 42 goals for the Lido in all
competitions. We wish him all the best with my
former website club, Ianto will be a hard act for anyone
to follow next season.
Ianto came back to Lido from
Goytre for the start of the 2005/06 season and in his 2 seasons back has
scored 57 goals from 70 appearances for the club.
And news of another
player who could soon be on his way is Liam McCreesh, Liam had talks
yesterday with our neighbours Port Talbot, Liam is
still recovering from his recent operation, I will pass on any more news on
the Liam/Port Talbot link as I hear it.

first away game is to Maesteg on Au 15th, then another home game on Aug 18
against Caerleon. Unfortunately the website wont be covering those first 3

will be back up to scratch in time for the next game on Aug 22nd when we
take on Maesteg at the Marston.
