Lido
teams of the past |
|
I was recently sent in
some old pictures of past Lido teams by Neil Preece, unfortunately we
don't have names for those in the pic's.
Unfortunately the only person
I can recognise is a young looking Phil Robbo in his prime complete
with curly hair, though I'm sure many of you will recognise many in
the pictures.

Bryntirion
match preview |
|
Tonight we take on one
of the rising teams in the welsh league. Bryntirion are the guests at
the Marston tonight, in only their 5th season in the welsh league.
Having finished as
champions of the south Wales amateur league in 2001-2002, they joined
the welsh league in 2002-03 finishing a credible 5th in their first
season in the league.
The following season the
won the welsh division 3 title losing just 3 games all season. Their
stay in division 2 was short lived as they won promotion in their
first and only season in division 2 finishing 3rd.
They more than held
their own in their first season in the top division finishing a
credible 9th, and last season they finished one better and finished
8th, and in the process got the better of Lido in our 2 league
meetings, drawing 0-0 at the Marston and beating us 3-0 Bryntirion
Park.
This season they look
like improving their standing again as they are flying high in 4th
place and just 3 points off top spot, so it's going to be a tough game
for us tonight and hopefully we will be at full strength to take on
the up and coming side, who have already taken the scalp of high
flying Goytre Utd at Glenhafod Park.
Kick off tonight is at
7:30.

Lido
bring home 3 points from the valleys |
|
Lido went behind to
Cambrian after 7 minutes, and their lead last 23 minutes, when Steve
Davies put us level from the spot.
We took the lead 5
minutes into the 2nd half, and we sealed the game on 74 minutes when
Steve Davies grabbed his 2nd and our 3rd to make the final score 3-1
and gave us our first away win of the season after 5 successive draws.
A nice belated birthday
present for the clubs chief executive Alan Howell's who was 55
yesterday, and he don't look a day over 60.

Other
Lido teams weekend results |
|
The Reserves were in
fine scoring form today at the Marston, putting 7 goals past Porthcawl
without reply and in the process move up to 3rd in the table, they now
trail leaders Bryntirion by 3 points, and we have a game in hand and
superior goal difference.
Our scorers were Umberto
Brasselo (2), Steve Hughes (2) Ali Walkley, Adam
Beynon and Sam Nolan.
Under 14's
Our under 13's proved
true to their names again today as the comeback kings. At one stage
they trailed Trefelin 2-1 but they never gave up and ran out 3-2
winners.
Our goal scorers were
Jack Underwood and Jake Price and a Trefelin own goal, on such a cold
day some parents even watched the game from their cars ;)
Under 12's
The under 12's had an
early rehearsal for the cup final against Baglan, running out 2-0
winners.
Our scorers were Kane
Devonald and Josh Evans.

Gaffer Craig makes his first
signing |
|
Manager Craig Duggan has
made his first signing for the Lido, and he went back to his old club
to get his man.
The club put in a 7 day
notice of approach for the talented Goytre Utd midfielder Michael
Waters, and last night the player signed up to join his ex manager and
make the short journey across town to the Marston.
Michael is a
versatile midfielder and can play on either wing, his decision to
leave Goytre and join Afan Lido is seen as the next piece of the
jigsaw in the clubs progression.
Michael though will
have to wait to make his debut for his new club, although he has
signed he cannot be registered until the January transfer window opens, he could make his
debut against Caerleon which is scheduled for January 5th.

Dai
(Cuckoo) Rees joins Lido as Assistant Manager
|
|
David Rees has been
appointed as Craig Duggan's right hand man (Assistant Manager). A larger
than life, popular character with a wealth of football experience and
knowledge, second to none in Welsh Football. We welcome Dai on board and
we know that with him and Craig, we can look forward to our continued
progression towards getting the 'Club' back where we belong into the Welsh
Football Premier League.
Dai (Cuckoo) Rees is a
former player and manager at Lido finishing his career in the opening
seasons of the welsh premier for the club.
Its Dai's 3rd time
teaming up with Craig Duggan as a management duo, they were together at
Port Talbot, Aug 1997 - Oct 2000) and also managed at Goytre Utd together.
Dai has also managed at both Maesteg and Pontardawe.
I have heard it said that
they bring to soccer management what Morecambe and Wise brought to comedy,
though I'm not sure which one resembles Ernie Wise with the short fat
hairy legs???

|
|
I can confirm on the website
that Afan Lido have officially applied to promotion to the welsh premier
league should we finish in the top two places in the welsh league and be
eligible for promotion.
We are only the 2nd of the
south wales based clubs to apply, Cwmbran town being the other. The
closing date for applying for promotion to the top flight is Monday 10
December.

Former
Lido youngster signs 4 year deal with Cardiff City
|
|
Young Lewis Holmes formerly
of Lido Under 8's has signed a four year contract with Cardiff City Football Club.
Lewis used to play for the under 8's in mini football until he was signed at Under 9 level.
He is now
playing
his fourth season at Academy level.
His opponents consist of Southampton,
Reading, Aston Villa, Birmingham and West Brom.
Unfortunately for Lido Lewis cannot play local league football as he is regarded as a category A
player.
Young Lewis is seen here signing his contract with Academy Manager Neil Ardley.
