AFAN LIDO 1-4 BRIDGEND

We played in the first round of the welsh cup on Sunday 15th October against Bridgend Ladies at the Marston.

Almost before the game had warmed up we were facing an uphill battle.

In just the 3rd minute of the game Kirsty Pratt was shown the red card for fouling a Bridgend player in the goalmouth, when in fact she tripped over a loose mound of earth and fell into their player. The resulting confusion over the penalty (which even the Bridgend players agreed the ref had made a mistake) led to Lido's coach Brian being sent from the sidelines for protesting Kirsty's innocence.

From the resulting penalty Sian Richardson put Bridgend 1-0 up. Bridgend doubled their score in the 30' totally against the run of play as Lido's 10 ladies had Bridgend pinned in their own half.

Stacey Harris then scored a cracker of a volley to make it 2-1 at the break.

The 2nd half started with Lido's 10 coming on strong and having most of the possession, but strangely awarded free kicks to Bridgend resulted in their 3rd and 4th goals in the 70' and in the 74' to make the scoreline 4-1.

Lido's heads were dropping and a few incidents followed with Kirsty Amos getting a yellow on her debut for a sliding challenge.

And then a free for all ensured in the 85' as one of the Bridgend players elbowed Tina Ellis in the face (unseen by the ref) and Tina ended up seeing red while the Bridgend player only getting a yellow.

So a disappointing result, but back to league action next week as we take on the Ladies of UWIC in Cardiff.
