2:30pm Kick Off Trefelin
1 – 1 Afan Lido The visit to Ynys Park
was initially daunting for two reasons, firstly the position of Trefelin
in the league and secondly the notorious Ynys park pitch. Fortunately we
found both not living up to their reputation. Whilst Trefelin took
the lead on the stroke of half time through a penalty conceded by another
Ryan James mistimed tackle, it was the Lido that had the most chances.
Rhodri Reynolds was odds on to score inside twenty minutes after a
cross box ball from Daniel Binding fell to him goal side of the defence.
The keeper made a sharp save to deny the Lido striker opening the scoring. Daniel Wagstaff fought
valiantly up front against a strong defence and proved his worth by
winning several free kicks in useful positions. The second half started
with Rhodri Reynolds and Ryan James both failing to make the most of
difficult opportunities and that
was followed by further missed chances from Richard Gullam and Gary
Griffiths. Reynolds also came close with an excellent free ick narrowly
missing the top corner. After a sustained
attack and good link up play on the left from Daniel Binding and Mark
Taylor the ball fell to Rhodri Reynolds in the box who slotted the ball
into the back of the net. Lido missed the
opportunity to cause an upset after Mike Price and Richard Gullam failed
to hit the target with headers. It
was the Trefelin manager who admitted that they were the lucky ones at the
end and had too many spectators on their team. We wish Trefelin all
the best in their chase to the title. |
