AFAN LIDO 0-0 BLUE STARS
The thirds played
their scheduled midweek game against Blue Star under lights at the
Marston's Stadium.
Although Blue Star are currently bottom they have several new
players and have won their previous two
matches.
Blue Star started
the better but seemed to lack a cutting edge in front of goal although
midway
through the half Mike Price made an excellent one handed save to
keep the score goalless. In the early
period of the second half we got on top but the Blue Star keeper
was playing a blinder, he was acting as
an extra sweeper and was very active up to thirty yards out.
Gary Griffiths
looked to have given us the lead
with a header from a corner but the keeper went full length and
just got a hand on it to keep the ball out. It
was almost a personal duel between Rhodri Reynolds and the keeper
as the half progressed, he made good
saves from both right and left footed shots and was beginning to
look unbeatable.
Richard Gullam came on as a sub and he was through on goal but his
effort went wide with us being awarded
a corner. The Blue Star defence was wilting under the
continued pressure but a combination of a poor final
ball and good goalkeeping kept the match scoreless.
In the last
minute Blue Star pushed forward and could
have stolen the points but with a player unmarked in front of goal
the ball carrier chose to shoot instead. The
shot going straight at Mike Price, he cleared the ball for the
final whistle to sound.
