report by Peter Reynolds
Lido overcame
this potential banana skin but not without the odd scare.
We were first to
test the keeper when Karl Lewis headed straight at the keeper
following a corner. On 19 minutes from another corner Paul Evans
headed over but two minutes later we took the lead.
Ian Jones was the
provider and he found John Felton to the right of goal and he fired
the ball across the keeper and into the far corner. Minutes later
their keeper made another save to deny Ian Jones.
On 32 minutes
Craig Jones fed the ball to Liam who played John in but he was
denied by a terrific save by the keeper. 5 minutes later we made it
two, Liam fed Karl Lewis who swung in the cross for Ian Jones to
power a header home from 15 yards.
Two minutes later
the visitors were back in the game in bizarre fashion. We were
fouled on the edge of the box and as we had the ball, the ref
shouted advantage, we immediately lost the ball and they played in
their striker who scored.
In the second half
Shaun O'Leary could have settled our nerves when he found himself on
the edge of the box but their keeper spread himself and saved
Shaun's effort.
With 20 minutes to
go a shot from outside the box rattled our post as we found it
difficult to clear our lines. The visitors continued to apply
pressure in the search for an equaliser but generally we stood
firm. In added on time, Liam pressurised the defender into losing
the ball, he travelled along the goal line towards goal, waited for
the keeper to make his move and powered an unstoppable shot into the
roof of the net to put us into Round 2.
