UWIC 1-4 AFAN LIDO
Match report by Peter Reynolds

Three more points and a successful return to Cyncoed for Ian Jones who netted a hat trick against one of his former sides. After a scrappy start with neither side able to bring the ball down and pass Paul Evans made his mark with a through ball that was just too far ahead of Ian and was grabbed by a former Lido keeper, Brendan Cropley.

We took the lead on 24 minutes when a great turn in the box by John Felton was stopped illegally. From the resultant penalty Ian netted with a powerful shot.
The only other real chance in the first half came on 34 minutes when a Steve Parry cross was volleyed over the bar by Shaun O'Leary.

We came out for the second half and had the advantage of a slight breeze and the slope. Within two minutes Ianto had doubled our lead, Matt Lavis had come on for Karl Lewis at half time and he spread the ball wide. Carl Evans, Shaun O'Leary and finally Ianto were all involved with Ianto scoring from ten yards. Two minutes later a great run from John Felton who beat several defenders before squaring the ball to Paul Evans but his first time shot from 25 yards was straight at the keeper. Shaun O'Leary was at the heart of most of our attacks and he started another on the hour and fed Ianto whose goalscoring pass to John Felton was just intercepted.

The game was wrapped up with two goals in just over a minute. On 61 minutes Steve Parry fed Ian who spun and hit a fierce first time effort which smacked against the crossbar but fell invitingly for John Felton to smash home from 15 yards. Almost straight from the kick off the ball was again played into the UWIC area for Ianto to react quickest and score his third.

5 minutes from time UWIC scored a consolation goal when their striker wriggled through a couple of challenges to deny us a clean sheet.
