We came out
on top in an entertaining encounter with UWIC.
Despite
being virtually the same side that lost 6-0 to Neath on Tuesday
they went at us and certainly made a game of it.
We took the
lead on 13 minutes when following a Chris Piper cross John Felton
headed in at the near post. Ian Jones almost made it 2 on 32
minutes when he beat the offside trap and lobbed the ball over
former Lido keeper, Brendan Cropley but hit the outside of the
goal.
UWIC's Tom
Morris netted after 57 minutes but it was ruled out thanks to the
linesman flagging him offside.
On 65
minutes we were awarded a penalty for a push in the back on Ian
Jones. He got up and put the penalty to Cropley's right but he
guessed right and made a fine save. He was unable to hold
the ball and Ian followed up to net the rebound, a minute later
Ian was through again and again Cropley guessed right to divert
the ball inches wide.
On 72
minutes UWIC grabbed a lifeline when Ricky Hodges picked the ball
up outside the box powered his way in and hit a fierce drive wide
of Scants.
Despite
repeated attacks, UWIC were unable to find a second goal so we at
last win at home and incidentally score for the first time ever in
a home match against the students.
