With the semi
final on Saturday in mind Holmsey and Evs made a number of changes
to the side.
Ianto, Justin Williams and Steve Parry were on the bench, Greg
Hurley, John Felton and Evs were left out altogether.
In came Chris Latham, Carl Evans, Liam McCreesh, Chris Piper,
Craig Jones and Matt Lavis. Liam
had our first shot on 5 minutes when he was played in by Craig
Jones but he hit the shot too early and sent it wide.
We took the lead
on 9 minutes when Craig Jones took a corner on the right and found
Carl Evans leaping high to head home giving
the keeper no chance. Quins then attacked and found a good
position in front of goal but luckily for us the forward's touch
wasn't good and the ball went through to Brian. After 20
minutes Liam again found space, this time down the left he made
ground but with no support was forced to shoot from a difficult
angle and the keeper saved it. After 26 minutes Quins equalised,
some poor defending on our part and a poor decision by the referee
as Craig Martin was fouled in the build up but
the ref allowed them to play on and score.
After 36 minutes
we retook the lead when a brilliant 40 yard diagonal ball from
Chris Latham split the defence allowing Craig Jones to run onto
the ball just outside the area. As the keeper came out
to narrow the angle Craig hit it early across the keeper into the
far corner. Three minutes later it could have been 3-1 as
Shaun O'Leary was clear just inside the Quins half but we were
called back thanks to a Chris Piper foul in the build up.
Just before half
time Liam found Craig Jones, he passed to Shaun and his cross was
met by Chris Latham but was just
too high for him and the ball sailed over the crossbar. On 52
minutes we played Shaun through and just before he reached the
edge of the area he was fouled from behind. The ref gave a yellow
card although only Quins would have argued if it was red.
From the resultant free kick Craig Martin hit his
shot hard and low but the keeper dived to his right to make a good
save. Quins went down the other end and Dan Williams when
shielding the ball out for a goal kick was caught by the forward
and was stretchered off. Hopefully his injury
won't keep him out of the semi final. On 61 minutes the ref
gave a free kick against Craig Jones for hand ball on the edge
of our box, it came to nothing but Steve Parry broke and fed Liam
who in turn fed Chris Latham thirty yards out but his
first time shot went wide.
On 65 minutes came
our moment of madness, we were awarded a free kick just inside the
Quins half, Carl Evans ran 50 yards to get involved and along with
two Quins players was given a red card and so has blown his chance
of playing in the semi final, in view of Daniel this was even more
irresponsible. We then lost our discipline
with a yellow card for Karl Lewis in the same incident and yellows
for Liam McCreesh and Justin Williams who had
come on as a sub on 67 minutes. Ianto came on for Craig
Jones on 72 minutes and had several attempts to increase the
lead. He picked up a bad pass on 83 minutes and hit a 25 yarder
which the keeper managed to turn away for a corner.
From the corner
the ball went across to Steve Parry and he drilled the ball
across goal, it was missed by everyone but Liam
managed to get to it just beyond the far post and score number
three to make the game safe. Right on time Ianto
again went through to be thwarted by the keeper at the expense of
another corner, this time however Liam's shot was saved.
