AFAN LIDO 2-0 LLANWERN
Match report by Peter Reynolds

As you know we were drawn away but the Spytty Road Stadium was unavailable and the league switched the game to the Marston's Stadium but it is still recorded as an away win.

This was a comfortable win and a reward for the hard work put in by the workers who got the pitch playable after the morning's torrential rain. The league agreed to a delayed kick off (02.30) and ironically there was no rain while the match was played and there were clear skies.

We should have gone ahead after 45 seconds but Craig Jones fired wide from eight yards. In a fairly even opening neither side created any clear-cut chances but on 20 minutes following a Steve Parry throw Craig Jones hit the corner of the post and upright and the ball bounced harmlessly for a goal kick. Two minutes later we opened the scoring, Karl Lewis picked up the ball in midfield and squared to Carl Edwards who carried the ball a couple of yards before shooting from 25 yards. The ball just eluded the keeper and dipped just under the crossbar. A great move involving Karl Lewis, Liam McCreesh and John Felton saw John fire wide from the edge of the area.

Llanwern had their best opportunity to equalise when Dan Williams missed out and their striker closed down on goal. He tried to lob Brian from 25 yards but didn't get enough height on it and Brian made a comfortable save.

1-0 at half time and Llanwern came out to give it their best shot. For 20 minutes they had the majority of possession but failed to make it count. Their best chance was a free kick 25 yards out in the centre of the goal but the free kick was hit straight at Brian.

On 62 minutes Ianto replaced Craig Jones and within 5 minutes he made it 2-0 when he received a pass from Karl Lewis and fired through a number of players. The match petered out after this with much of the play between the penalty areas and not much goal action. We now await the Semi Final draw which should be made on Tuesday night.
