Two
goals by Craig Jones sealed a well deserved win against Dinas
Powys who had previously won both their away matches.
In a much changed side from last Friday, Karl Lewis, Carl Evans,
John Felton and Liam McCreesh all missed the game. Chris
Latham, Craig Martin, Craig Jones and Matt Lavis made the starting
line up while there was a first appearance on the bench for Neil
Hendra.
Not surprisingly it took some time for us to settle, Paul Evans
with a header from a corner on 12 minutes was our first real
attempt and even that failed to test the keeper. On 23
minutes Chris Latham was felled in the box but the ref waved play
on but 3 minutes later we took the lead.
Paul
Evans played a long ball over the visitor's defence and Craig
Jones beat the offside trap and with the keeper racing out of his
goal, coolly slotted the ball over the keeper's head into the
unguarded net from 25 yards.
On 36 minutes Craig Martin carried the ball forward and shot from
all of 30 yards, the keeper managed to claw the ball from under
the bar. Craig Jones put the ball back in the danger area
and Chris Latham got a touch which the keeper scrambled against
the post.
Although the visitors had their fair share of possession they
failed to trouble Brian in goal.
Ian
Jones pulled up with what seemed a hamstring problem on 62 minutes
and was substituted by Neil Hendra.
On
74 minutes we scored on of our best goals this season.
With
a visiting defender looking to shepherd the ball for a goal kick,
Greg Hurley won the ball and crossed it, the ball was headed clear
and was being carried clear by a defender. Craig Jones didn't give
up the chase and nicked the ball off the defender about 35 yards
from goal. He played it forward to Shaun O'Leary and
continued his run, Shaun found him in space just inside the area
and Craig side footed past the keeper as he came out to narrow the
angle.
It
was a goal worthy of winning any match and eased us over the
finishing line for 3 more points.
