report by Peter Reynolds
We overcame
determined opponents to keep our unbeaten run going. In the first
half the ref tried to keep his cards in his pocket and offered us
no protection. Ianto was cynically fouled in front of the dugouts
after only three minutes but all we had was a free kick. In the
second half we are two up and Carl Evans fell for the old sucker
punch and was sent off for retaliation. In the end we had three
yellow cards while they had two plus a sending off, no thanks to
the referee on the night.
Anyway to the
game, from the free kick after Ianto was fouled Shaun put in a
great ball but the defence cleared under pressure. After eight
minutes a great move between Shaun, Ianto and Greg opened up the
defence but Greg's effort went wide.
On nineteen
minutes a Steve Parry cross was volleyed by Craig Jones from the
edge of the area but straight at the keeper. On twenty two minutes
Ianto beat a couple of defenders in the area but the keeper closed
him down and blocked his shot. Three minutes later, Craig Jones
was pushed wide but with only the keeper to beat pushed his effort
wide.
On twenty eight minutes we scored, a Steve Parry long throw went
into the goal and the ref awarded a goal.
Half time checks
confirmed the ball went in off Ian Jones. On forty one minutes a
great ball from Liam to Craig Jones saw him get to the by-line but
his driven cross just eluded Ianto in front of an empty net. Just
before half time, Steve Parry carried the ball forty yards played
it in to Ianto who again had his shot saved.
Within five
minutes of the resumption we went two up, a long ball from Carl
Evans over the visitor's back four was seized on by Ianto, he went
around the keeper and from a wide angle shot into the net. Four
minutes later, a Shaun O'Leary free kick was just missed by Liam
and the ball went for a goal kick. While the players were
returning to their positions Carl Evans became involved and was
sent off. This was just what the visitors wanted and four minutes
later Chris Pritchard scored from 25 yards, the first goal we'd
conceded in 707 minutes. Phil Holmes then went on to replace Craig
Jones and we were under intense pressure until they scored a
second on 78 minutes. Their centre forward went down 20 yards out
in the centre of the field, several of our players were booked
contesting the decision. The art of conning the referee is
obviously now down to our level, sadly for the game of football
they equalised.
Not to be outdone
however a great run by Greg Hurley was halted illegally just
outside the box. Another red card and a free kick to us, up
stepped Steve Parry to hammer it into the net to restore our lead.
With equal numbers on the field we comfortably saw out the last
minutes, we even had time for Liam to head over when well placed
and Chris Latham to power through and have his shot saved.
