AFAN LIDO 3-2 CAERLEON
Match report by Peter Reynolds

A dramatic late winner from Shaun O'Leary capped an entertaining but sometimes hostile game.
We took the lead on 6 minutes when a through ball from Liam McCreesh was picked up by Ian Jones who rounded the keeper to slot home from 15 yards.

Craig Jones and Carl Evans had a couple of chances to double the lead but their efforts were turned around for corners. Caerleon played some nice possession football without looking particularly dangerous then a through ball caught us out in the back for Nicky Vassello to equalise on 32 minutes with a left foot shot.

In the second half we continued to pressure the visitors and on 62 minutes Carl Evans headed against the crossbar from a Shaun O'Leary corner.

A minute later he headed wide from a free kick and with the pressure being maintained he headed wide from another free kick on 68 minutes. Caerleon broke from the shackles and on 71 minutes took the lead when from a free kick on the half way line.

Carl Evans missed a defensive header allowing Nicky Vassello room to score both his and Caerleon's second. On the hour mark one bank of floodlights failed causing a 15 minute hold up and on 80 minutes Caerleon's Ben Davies was sent off for fouling Craig Martin who after treatment on the field was stretchered off and taken to hospital.

Chris Latham took his place and on 87 minutes he fired a 25 yard shot that beat the keeper all ends up but the ball hit the post and rebounded into play. The first to react was Liam McCreesh but he couldn't direct his point blank header on target.

With 90 minutes on the watch and all looking lost we were awarded a penalty for hand ball. Ian Jones calmly slotted home the spot kick sending the keeper the wrong way. Play continued and we continued to press forward, we were awarded a free kick 5 yards in from touch in line with the penalty area. With everyone expecting a floated ball into the area we squared it to an unmarked Shaun O'Leary who fired an unstoppable shot into the net for his first of the season.

There was still time for one last raid by the visitors but we held out for three hard earned and with minutes to go unlikely points.
