AFAN LIDO 1-0 BRIDGEND TOWN
Match report by Peter Reynolds

In view of Sunday's final we had two debutants tonight and two more on the bench. Also Luke Harrington started and played for the first time in weeks while Karl Reynolds was on the bench for the first time since the reserves played Cwmamman in January.

We started quite well twice Shaun Best got down the right but his first cross was blocked and he over hit the second. Justin Williams fouled out on the left touchline giving Bridgend the chance to test Jay Evans in goal, Jay held the free kick and cleared. Karl Roberts then conceded a free kick some 40 yards out, Aaron Keefe managed to turn it for a corner. In all Bridgend had three more corners before we managed to clear. We were unable to retain possession until Matt Lavis fed Shaun Best who beat the defender but then lost possession. After 22 minutes we had a free kick on half way but Matt Lavis's kick was too long and went for a goal kick. On 37 minutes Bridgend's 9 tried a snap shot from 25 yards which clipped the outside of the post. That was the nearest either side had come to scoring in the first half.
We started the second half well with Luke Harrington shooting over from 20 yards. Bridgend then attacked and Calvin Reid did well to head clear under pressure. You could feel and hear Bridgend getting more and more frustrated as the expected goal avalanche (in their eyes) never came. They continued to pressure us but stout defending and in some cases last ditch defending kept them out. This was highlighted after 73 minutes when both Karl Roberts and Aaron Keefe dived at a goal bound shot to block it. On 77 minutes Bridgend had a free kick some 25 yards out, the ball bounced in front of Jay Evans who failed to hold it but he managed to recover and smother the ball before anyone could apply the finishing touch. Then on 78 minutes a long ball over the top saw Shaun Best give chase, he beat the offside trap, went around the keeper and slotted the ball into the net from a tight angle for his first first team goal. Bridgend kicked off and within a minute had a goal ruled out for offside, they got more and more desperate as the minutes ticked away but the never say die attitude of our team saw them to a famous victory.
