We eased past
Bridgend with a goal in each half, the only worry for next week's
semi final was the injury picked up by Craig Martin. He had to be
replaced after 36 minutes.
We took the game
to Bridgend and Karl Lewis fired over the bar after only 30
seconds. Brian got an important touch after 10 minutes when he
just managed to deflect a cross with a Bridgend forward waiting to
head it into the empty net. We came back and Paul Evans laid the
ball back for Shaun O'Leary but his shot from just outside the box
was charged down. Greg then fed John Felton who made ground down
the left wing, he crossed to Ianto but his shot went over the bar.
On 19 minutes Bridgend should have taken the lead, their 11 went
through a couple of poor challenges and Brian came out to narrow
the angle. With time and space the forward didn't trouble Brian,
he put his shot wide when it was easier to score. On 28 minutes we
took the lead, a Shaun O'Leary shot was saved by the keeper but he
failed to hold it, John Felton was following in and fired the
rebound home. We had a couple of chances to increase our lead
before half time but Karl Lewis headed a Shaun O'Leary free kick
wide and Ianto fired a free kick into the wall and then hit the
rebound wide.
The second half
started like the first only this time John Felton received the
ball on the edge of the box, turned and hit a left footer smack
against the crossbar after 35 seconds. On 52 minutes a Daniel
Williams clearance hit the ref and wrong footed us, however their
shot went wide. On the hour a great through ball by Matt Lavis was
just cleared by the keeper who got to the ball just ahead of John
Felton. John then made ground down the left and crossed for Ianto
but with the goal gaping his first touch let him down and the
keeper cleared. Midway through the second half we doubled our
lead, Steve Parry took a throw to John Felton in the box, John
helped it on to Paul Evans, Evs was fouled and Ianto buried the
resultant penalty. We held out without too much difficulty against
a side who haven't scored in their last 5 matches.
We now play Grange
Quins at the Marston's Stadium on Tuesday before next week's semi
final at Aberystwyth.
