AFAN LIDO 6-1 BARRY TOWN
Match report by Peter Reynolds

Well done to everyone who got down and worked on the pitch after the afternoon's torrential rain to ensure this game was played. Ironically we had no rain during the game.
It was sad to see a club of Barry's standing turn up with only 12 players for their final game of the season. They started the better and called Brian Thomas into action as early as the third minute. Our first real attack saw Ian Jones back heel the ball into Liam McCreesh's path but there was too much pace on the ball and it ran through to the keeper. Craig Jones then fed Liam who sidestepped a defender in the box and his diagonal cross come shot just eluded Ian Jones at the far post. On 12 minutes in another Barry attack they shot wide from a good position and it was to prove costly for a minute later Craig Jones fed Greg Hurley who played the ball to Carl Edwards on the left. He went at pace towards the goal line and crossed hard and low to the near post where Chris Latham wasn't picked up and scored with a left footed shot that left the keeper rooted to the spot. On 15 minutes Chris had a second chance but headed Craig Jones's cross over the bar. When Barry had the ball they played some nice football trouble for them was when they lost it they didn't chase back to try and retrieve it. On 35 minutes we should have been two up, Chris Latham with only the keeper to beat somehow scooped the ball over the crossbar (he says it bobbled!). After 37 minutes we finally went two up, Chris Latham played the ball to Ian Jones who laid it back for Greg Hurley just outside the box. Greg's shot hit a defender and looped over the stranded keeper and nestled in the far corner of the net. On 41 minutes Barry forced a corner off Carl Edwards but Brian Thomas made an easy save off their 10.
The second half saw Ian Jones score four to take his tally for the season to 41. He scored his first after 51 minutes when Craig Jones went down the right and cross to Ian who had time to take the ball down on his chest and shoot right footed into the net. Four minutes later he doubled his tally when he timed his run onto a through ball and shot past the advancing keeper. On the hour he almost had his third when following another Craig Jones cross he powered a header just inside the far post however the Barry keeper dived full length to his left and made an excellent save at the expense of a corner. 15 minutes from time Ian played the ball to Chris Latham and his cross hit the crossbar and bounced to safety. With 10 minutes to go another ball through the centre of the Barry defence saw Ian get to the ball before the advancing keeper and hit it past him from 25 yards. After this however our defence became sloppy, their 10 beat three players in the penalty area but shot over the bar when well placed. With 2 minutes to go Barry scored when we again failed to clear the ball and their 6 scored with a shot that took a slight deflection. It was Barry's first goal against us in almost 270 minutes of football this season. In added on time (90+3) in a carbon copy of his third goal Ian Jones picked up a Phil Holmes through ball and again beat what was now a dispirited keeper.
